Antioch The settlers arrived at the foot of our now
F Street, September 16, 1850. They camped under the oaks in tents, and planned their
homes. Five houses were built in the first fall and winter. The most westerly was Captain
Kimball's at the now Third and F Streets, southeast corner; the others extended eastward
to about the intersection of Sixth and A Streets of today. Captain Kimball later had the
town laid out in blocks. He purchased much of the early town site, giving some lots to
organizations and selling other lots and blocks to individuals.
